ABOUT THE NADA ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT PROTOCOL
The internationally recognized National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) protocol helps balance the body’s energies, helps detoxify the body, provides a sense of well being, and reduces stress level and the cravings associated with addictive behaviors. Dr. Graham was trained and certified in the protocol at Lincoln Recovery Center in the South Bronx, New York, which was the origin of NADA and remains the NADA International Headquarters. NADA was born during the urban decay and devastating heroin epidemic of the 1970’s from the efforts of community workers seeking inexpensive and non pharmacological interventions for people striving towards freedom from their addictions. Since then the NADA protocol has been used on thousands of patients in a multitude of settings, including currently over 1500 drug treatment and wellness centers throughout the world. It has become a staple in disaster relief, beginning on a large scale with 9/11 first responders and continuing as part of the official initial staging in New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
The NADA protocol uses five time-tested acupuncture points in each ear. Treatments are virtually pain free and quick. Once the needles are in place, the patient relaxes to soft music or silence for the duration of the treatment.
NOTE to those who wish to quit smoking: For the NADA protocol to be effective for smoking cessation, patients should demonstrate that they can remain cigarette free for four days before beginning NADA treatments (treatments should begin no later than the fourth day). As with any addiction, patients must be committed to quitting for their own health and well being, and additional counseling is recommended for greater success.
